Audio library
The song isn’t in Instagram’s music search
The Audio tool is the list of sounds Instagram offers for a new Reel. A song can play inside a Reel you already watched and still be missing from that search. Copy the Reel.

Name the file, not the library
- If a specific Reel is what you heard, leave the Audio tool.
Copy that Reel’s link —
/reel/or/reels/plus a short code — and paste it in the box above. - No result in the Audio tool means Instagram is not offering that sound for a new Reel. It does not mean the recording in the Reel has no name.
- When the result names a title, search it in a streaming app.
- If you got here from a page of clips whose header is a username, that is a different screen. The song isn’t on the audio page is that case. What to do when the Reel itself only says Original audio is Original audio.
What that search is allowed to list
Instagram’s help says a Reel can use original audio you recorded or uploaded, another creator’s original audio, or audio from the Instagram audio library through the Audio tool. Licensed library audio is attributed with the artist and the track name. Original audio displays a username. Those are the sounds the product is built to attach. They are not a catalog of every commercial release.
The same help page says agreements change, and a track in an existing post can be muted while the post stays up. A muted file has no audio left to name. If the Reel still plays music, the paste above is the step that can return a title. The walkthrough for a normal Reel link is find the song from a Reel link.
Questions
I want this song on my own Reel. Will the finder unlock it in the Audio tool?
No. A match is a title and artist for the file you pasted. It does not add the track to Instagram’s audio library, and it does not license it for a new Reel.
The Audio tool shows a similar title. Is that the song in the Reel?
Not necessarily. Paste the Reel and compare the preview on the result with what you hear. The closest library title is not automatically the recording in the file.
Can I reuse original audio from a normal feed video?
Instagram’s help says you can’t use original audio from a feed video unless you remix that video. Naming the song does not change that rule.
