X (Twitter)

Twitter song finder: name the song in a video on X

A video on X (Twitter) usually has no song title attached. You cannot paste its link here, but you can record the video with the sound on and upload the recording, and the music in it is matched against a song catalog.

The box above only takes a public Instagram Reel link. For an X video, press No link? Upload a screen recording instead under it and choose your recording.

Pasting an x.com or twitter.com link will not work. It is rejected right away as an invalid URL and nothing is charged. The upload route below is the one that works.

Try the free places first

Unlike TikTok or Instagram, an X video does not come with a music sticker or sound page that we know of, so there is nothing to tap. People do ask and answer, though. Read the post text, open the replies and the quote posts, and look at the account’s other posts. If the clip is from a film, game or a creator’s own video, the original source often lists the music. This costs nothing and gives an exact name when it works.

Steps for the recording route

  1. Record with internal audio. On iPhone, use the Control Center screen recorder with the microphone off. On Android, use the built-in screen recorder with sound from the device. On a computer, use a recorder that captures system audio. A microphone-only recording hears the room and fails. Device-specific tips are in identify the song without downloading.
  2. Start where the music starts. Play the video with the volume up and record about 20 seconds. For a large recording only the first 30 seconds are used.
  3. Upload it. Press “No link? Upload a screen recording instead” under the box at the top of this page, choose the recording, and press Find song. A recording over about 9 MB is turned into a small audio file in your browser first, and only that is uploaded.
  4. Check the preview. Play it against the video. A different song means it was a false match or a remix; see is the match right?.

Why X videos fail more often

  • GIFs have no sound. A looping clip on X is silent by design, and a video posted without audio is the same.
  • Speech over music. Reaction clips, commentary and interviews put talking over the track.
  • Edited audio. Sped-up, slowed, pitched or cut-up music is hard to match, see sped-up and remix songs.
  • Embedded or reposted clips. A video that came from another site may already be named there. Find the original and see YouTube song finder or TikTok song finder.
  • Very short clips. Two or three seconds give the catalog little to compare.

When there is no match we say so and do not invent a title. We have not measured a match rate for X videos, so we do not quote one.

Cost

The first 2 matches in a browser are free with no account. After that, 20 more are $4.99 once or Unlimited is $9.99 a month; see pricing. A rejected link, a failed upload or a no-match is not counted. Anything other than an X video works the same way, see find song from a video.

Questions

Can I paste an x.com or twitter.com link?

No. The paste box accepts a public Instagram Reel link only, so an x.com, twitter.com or t.co link is rejected as an invalid URL and nothing is charged. Record the video with sound and upload the recording instead.

Does X show the name of the song?

We know of no music credit or sound page on X video posts, unlike TikTok or Instagram. If you do see a song named in a post, use that. Otherwise the post text, replies and quote posts are the free place to look, and then the audio.

How do I record the sound of an X video?

Use your phone’s screen recorder with device (internal) audio, not the microphone, and play the video with the volume up. On a computer, use a recorder that captures system audio. Record about 20 seconds that start where the music starts.

The post is a GIF. Will it work?

No. A GIF on X is a silent loop, so there is no audio to match. The same applies to any video that was posted without sound.

The video has a person talking over the music. Will it match?

Often not. Speech covers the music, and many X clips are compressed. Use a moment where the speech stops, or the start of the video if there is an intro.

Does a failed attempt cost me a free match?

No. A rejected link, a failed upload and a no-match are not counted. A successful match uses one of your 2 free matches, then it is $4.99 for 20 or $9.99 a month; see pricing.
