Short answer: To find the song in an Instagram Reel, tap the audio name at the bottom of the Reel first; if it shows Original Audio or nothing useful, copy the Reel link (Share, then Copy link) and paste it into a song finder that reads the Reel's audio, such as the box above. It works for public Reels only, and a song that is not in a music catalog comes back as no match.
Why the sticker and a mic app miss
Instagram prints a title only when a catalog sound is attached. Original Audio, a blank credit, and “this song is unavailable” are missing or blocked labels. They are not proof the file is silent. The label cases are split in Original Audio and this song is unavailable.
Shazam listens through the microphone. Muted autoplay, a two-second cut, room noise, and a voiceover are the usual misses even when the song is famous. If you can copy a public link, the speaker is the wrong instrument. Hold the phone up only when there is no link: a TV, someone else’s locked phone, or a Story. That split is Shazam failed on a Reel.
Captions and comments are text you can read yourself. This finder does not search them and will not invent a title from hashtags. If a comment names a song and the result names another, play the preview and trust the fingerprint.
Copy a link the finder can open
- Open the Reel full screen. Progress bars across the top mean a Story. Stop and use find a song from an Instagram Story. A profile grid, Explore, and Instagram’s music-library page are the wrong object. Tap the clip so it plays on its own.
- Share, then Copy link. The paper plane sits on the right of a Reel, or under it, depending on the app version. If the sheet only lists people, look along the bottom row for Copy link. On a Reel you posted, ⋯ → Link copies the same kind of URL. Button placement on each phone is copy a Reel link.
- Read the clipboard before you trust it.
Paste into Notes. You want
https://www.instagram.com/reel/…or/reels/…and a short code of letters and numbers.?igsh=is tracking — leave it. If the text is onlyinstagram.com/username, you copied the profile. A/share/…blob has to be opened until the address bar changes to/reel/; an unresolved share link is rejected. - Paste it in the box on this page. Tap Find song. Leave the hardware mute switch alone. On a computer with no Instagram app, copy the browser address instead: find a Reel song on PC.
- Open the track where you already listen. Spotify and Apple Music buttons appear when those catalogs returned a link. A button that says search is a search, not a direct album page. A result you unlocked stays open at its link.
Stop if the sticker already named it
Look under the caption before a second paste. A normal credit reads like a title and an artist and opens Instagram’s sound page. Search that exact string in your streaming app. You do not need a fingerprint for a name you can already see.
What this paste will not accept
- Stories, Close Friends, and private accounts that do not open while you are logged out. A private URL fails at fetch: find a song from a private Reel.
- A profile, an Explore grid, or Instagram’s music-library page.
- TikTok and YouTube. Those hosts are rejected on purpose. TikTok and Shorts have their own steps.
- Speech-only clips and unreleased beats. “No match” means we heard audio that is not a known release. Sped-up and remix edits are a separate case: sped-up or remix song from a Reel.
A public feed video (/p/ or /tv/) is worth one paste if that is the only URL you
copied. Photo carousels often have no usable track. Which Instagram surface you are on is

Can Shazam identify an Instagram reel?
Shazam does not take an Instagram link. It names what it hears. A Shazam Instagram Reel check works only while the Reel is playing out loud.
- Use a second device. Turn the Reel’s sound on, then open Shazam on another phone and hold it near that speaker.
- Or use Shazam’s own listener. On iPhone, add Shazam’s Music Recognition button to Control Center, unmute the Reel, turn the volume up, and tap that button while the Reel plays. On Android, use Shazam’s popup (the floating Shazam button) the same way: the Reel has to be playing through the speaker. Headphones keep the sound out of the microphone, so play through the speaker or use the second device.
Both fail when the Reel stays muted, because there is nothing to hear, and when a voiceover covers the music, because the microphone hears the voice. Paste the public Reel link in the box on this page instead. The match reads the file, so the speaker can stay off. A voiceover that is louder than the song can still hide the recording in the file. Copying the URL is how to copy an Instagram Reel link. If the track is missing from Instagram’s own music search, that is a library limit, covered in the song isn’t in music search. The paste still uses the Reel that is already playing it.

Questions
What does a usable Reel link look like?
https://www.instagram.com/reel/ or /reels/ plus a short code. A bare username is the profile. ?igsh= on the end is tracking and can stay. An unresolved /share/ link should be opened until the address bar shows /reel/.
Does copying the link notify the creator?
No. Copy link writes the URL to your clipboard. It is not a like, a view you control, or a comment.
The finder said no match. Was the link wrong?
No match means the file was heard and is not a catalog recording: speech, an unreleased edit, or a hook too short or buried to fingerprint. A credit is used only when we find a match. “Couldn’t reach that Reel” is the other sentence — private, deleted, or blocked — and that failure is not charged.
Can I do this from a laptop browser?
Yes. Open the public Reel so the address bar contains /reel/ and paste that URL. You do not install a desktop app. The computer-only path is the PC guide.
