Is the song match right? A two-minute check

A returned title is a match, not a promise. A short check takes a couple of minutes and tells you whether to trust it or search again.

The two-minute check

  1. Play the preview. When a result has a 30-second preview, it appears under the title. Start it and listen for the part you remember from the Reel.
  2. Compare melody and rhythm, not the exact sound. A Reel often plays a slice of the song that is not the chorus. If you recognise the tune of the preview in the Reel, it is right.
  3. Allow for pitch and speed. Many Reels are sped up. The same melody at a higher pitch is still the song. If you want that exact version, see sped-up and remix Reels.
  4. Check the context. The Reel’s caption and top comments often name the track. If they disagree with the result, look at both versions again.
  5. Open it in your music app. The result has links for streaming services. Opening the song there is the quickest way to hear a full version.

Signs that a match is wrong

  • The preview has a different melody from the Reel, even allowing for speed.
  • The Reel is mostly someone talking, with music far in the background. See song under a voiceover.
  • The Reel is a DJ mix or a mashup, where two songs overlap.

If you get no match at all, the cause is usually one of those. The page when a Reel song was not found lists the common ones, and Original audio explains why the label is no help.

Be honest about the limit

An audio match can be wrong, and the site will not invent a title when nothing matches. If your check fails twice, stop and use another route: lyrics, the creator’s own posts, or a Reel that uses the same sound.

Questions

How do I know the match is right?

Play the 30-second preview on the result, when there is one, and compare it with the part of the Reel you heard. If the melody and rhythm line up, it is right. Pitch and speed can differ in an edited Reel.

The Reel sounds faster and higher than the result.

That is common. Many Reels use a sped-up or pitched edit of a song. If the melody and lyrics match, you have the right song. The edit is a separate version. See sped-up and remix Reels.

The song matched, but the Reel is a remix.

The finder may name the original recording, or a close version. If you want the remix, search the artist and title plus remix, or check the creator’s caption.

What if the result is clearly wrong?

Try the same Reel link again later, or find another public Reel using the same sound. If you have lyrics, search them. A wrong match can happen with heavy effects or voiceover.
