No match
The Reel song wasn’t found. Fix the error you got.
The screen shows a specific sentence. “No match”, “couldn’t reach that Reel”, and “need a public Reel URL” are not the same failure. Rerunning the paste does not change which one you hit.
Match the sentence, then do one thing
- “Need a public Reel URL.”
You pasted a profile, a Story, Explore, a music-library page, or a TikTok. Open the Reel and copy again
until Notes shows
instagram.com/reel/. What the clipboard should look like. - “That share link couldn’t be resolved.”
Instagram gave you an opaque
/share/…URL. Open the Reel in the app and use Copy link so the path contains/reel/. If the bar stays on /share/. - “Couldn’t reach that Reel” or “link fetch failed — you weren’t charged.” Private, deleted, region-blocked, or Instagram didn’t return the file. This did not use a free ID. Private Reels stay locked. If you can play the clip on your phone, upload the clip or a screen recording when the form offers it (large recordings are shrunk in your browser). How to record that clip. Uploading will not unlock a private post.
- “No match.” We heard the audio. It is speech, an unreleased edit, or too short or buried to fingerprint. This try did not use a free ID. Don’t upload the same mix again. Change the clip: a longer chorus, less talking, or accept the miss.
- “You’ve used your 2 free song matches.” The search did not run. Free is two matches per browser, one time. The same URL after a successful match is free. Packs and restore are on pricing.
Try a clean public Reel link once
If we can’t reach it, you are not charged. If it matches, you’re done.
Retry with a Reel linkA no-match checklist that changes the input
Once the message is “no match,” the URL was fine. Work down this list once. Do not loop it.
- Is there music? Unmute. If you only hear a monologue, the catalogs have nothing to return. Save the ID you would have spent on a second try.
- Is the music under a voiceover? Link matching sometimes still gets the bed; a phone mic usually will not. If you already used the link and it missed, a cleaner repost of the same hook is a better retry than the same file. More on this mix: song under a voiceover.
- How long is the hook? Under a couple of seconds, recognition gets brittle. Find another public Reel that stays on the chorus longer.
- Is it sped up, slowed, or pitched? Mild edits often still match. Extreme nightcore and mashups often do not. Sped-up and remix Reels. Searching the lyrics you can make out is then a better use of time than a third fingerprint.
- Original Audio? The label explains the missing sticker, not the miss. If the sound is an unreleased beat, both the sticker and the catalogs will be empty. Background: Original Audio.
- Did comments already name it? Use that as a lead and confirm on Spotify. Do not paste the comment into the finder. The finder does not search text.
Upload fallback, used narrowly
The form shows an upload when the remote fetch fails, and you can also choose a file if that is all you have. Files over 9 MB are shrunk to the first 30 seconds of audio in your browser. Send a stretch of music, not a silent screen recording and not a ten-minute story time.
Uploading the same unmatched audio in a different container will miss again. The fingerprint already had its chance. Record a new clip only when it contains a different, clearer moment of the song, or when the first attempt never fetched the Reel. How to capture that clip without a shady downloader: save Reel audio to identify the song.
Shazam failing is not the same bug
If Shazam missed and you have not pasted the link yet, you are not in the “not found” case. Muted autoplay and room noise never reached our matcher. Paste the public URL before you debug catalogs. The split between mic apps and link matching is Shazam alternatives for Reels.
What we will not do on a miss
We will not pick the most likely chart song for that week, read the hashtags, or return a title with low confidence dressed up as a match. A wrong title sends you to the wrong page on Spotify and wastes the reason you asked. If the audio is not in the catalogs, the useful answer is that we do not know.
You can still search a lyric fragment yourself, ask the creator, or wait for a repost that uses the official sticker. Those are human lookups. They are often faster than a fourth automated attempt on an unreleased edit.
Quota, so a miss stays cheap
- Free tier: 2 identifications in total per browser (not per day), no account
- Same Reel URL after a successful match: free cache hit
- Fetch failure and private/unreachable: no burn
- No-match after we heard the audio: also no burn (retries are capped at 3 a day)
- Pack credits and Unlimited follow the checkout email — restore them on a new browser at /restore
If you are out of free IDs and the last result was a fetch error, you do not need to buy anything to retry that URL later. If the last result was a true no-match, another paid try of the identical file is unlikely to change the catalog.
Questions
Why did ReelSongFinder find no song?
Either the public audio could not be fetched, or it was fetched and did not match a catalog recording. Private Reels, deleted clips, speech-only audio, unreleased beats, and heavy pitch edits are the usual causes. We do not invent a title.
Did a failed search use up my free identifications?
No. A failed fetch does not, and a no-match does not either: only a result with a song uses a free identification. No-match retries are capped at 3 a day. Repeating the exact same Reel URL after a successful match is a free cache hit.
Should I upload a screen recording after “no match”?
Only if the form offers an upload because the link could not be fetched, and you have a short clip that actually contains music. Uploading the same unmatched audio again will not create a catalog entry.
The Reel clearly uses a famous song. Why no match?
The excerpt may be too short, buried under voiceover, or pitched far enough that the fingerprint misses. Try a Reel that plays a longer, cleaner part of the same hook. If every copy misses, the edit may not be matchable.
Try a public Reel link once
If it matches, you are done. If the message says we could not reach it, you were not charged.
Retry with a Reel linkA very recent release or a snippet can also miss: see new or unreleased song in a Reel.
