What song is this on Instagram?

A Reel, a Story, a photo carousel, and a music page are not the same file. Name the one on your screen, copy that URL, and skip the surfaces that cannot be identified.

Do this

  1. Look at the chrome before you copy anything. Progress bars across the top mean a Story. Stop — there is no stable public file. Play it out loud for Shazam if you can hear it, or wait until they post a Reel.
  2. Full-screen vertical video in Reels: Share → Copy link. You want /reel/ or /reels/. Paste it on the homepage. The full walkthrough is find the song on any Instagram Reel.
  3. A feed video, not a Reel: copy that post’s link once. Public /p/ and older /tv/ video URLs are accepted. A photo carousel at /p/ often has no usable music even though the URL shape is valid. One paste. If it returns no audio, use the sticker text or Shazam while it plays. Don’t paste the profile hoping we pick a photo.
  4. If the music sticker already says “Song — Artist”, search that. You don’t need a tool. Paste only when the credit is Original Audio, blank, or unavailable in your region.
  5. Profile, Explore, music-library page, TikTok: wrong object. Open the actual video first. TikTok’s own steps are TikTok song finder. Do not paste tiktok.com here.

Paste the video link, not the profile

Reels first. A public video-post URL is fine when that’s the only link you copied.

Which Instagram links can be identified

ReelSongFinder matches audio from a public Instagram URL. It does not log into your account, and it does not guess from hashtags. These are the shapes that pass the URL check:

  • Reels — instagram.com/reel/… or /reels/…. This is the intended input. The dedicated walkthrough is how to find a song on an Instagram Reel.
  • Public video posts — /p/… when the post is a video, and older /tv/… links. Worth pasting if that is the only URL you copied. A photo carousel at /p/… often has no usable music track even though the URL shape is accepted.
  • Share links — Instagram sometimes copies an opaque /share/… URL. If it resolves to a Reel or post, identification continues. If it does not, open the post and copy the link again so you can see /reel/ in the path.

Query strings such as ?igsh= are fine. They are tracking parameters. You can paste the whole copied URL.

Which links will not work

  • Stories and Highlights — they expire or sit behind your login. There is no stable public media URL for the finder. Find a song from an Instagram Story.
  • Close Friends and private accounts — if the post does not open while you are logged out, we cannot fetch it either.
  • Profile URLs and Explore — instagram.com/username is not a piece of media.
  • Music and audio library pages — Instagram’s own song pages are not a Reel. Copy the link from the video that used the sound, not from the sound’s catalog page. When that page has no song name.
  • TikTok, Shorts, and YouTube — different hosts, rejected on purpose. For TikTok’s own workflows, read TikTok song finder and YouTube Shorts song finder.

Do this when you have a public video

1 · Copy

In the app: Share (paper plane) or ⋯ → Copy link. On desktop, copy the address bar once it shows a media path. Phone details: how to copy an Instagram Reel link.

2 · Paste

Drop the URL into the finder on the homepage and tap Find song. Muted autoplay does not matter; the match uses the file.

3 · Listen

Open Spotify or Apple Music from the result. If catalogs only gave us a search, the button says so. Identifying that same URL again is free.

If Instagram already shows the song

Look under the caption before you paste anything. A normal music sticker reads like a title and an artist and opens Instagram’s sound page. That is the answer. Search it in your streaming app and skip the tool.

Paste the video link when the sticker is missing, when it says Original Audio, or when your region shows the audio as unavailable. Those are metadata problems. The recording can still be a known release. The label is explained in why Instagram shows Original Audio, and the blank-sticker cases are in when a Reel has no song name.

Feed posts, carousels, and lives

A single public video in the feed is the closest thing to a Reel for this job. Copy its link and paste it. If identification succeeds, you get the same kind of result as a Reel: title, artist, preview when one exists, store links.

Carousels are less predictable. A swipe of photos may include a music sticker that never becomes a clean audio file for a remote fetcher. If the paste returns no audio, the honest options are the sticker text, a comment that names the track, or Shazam while the post plays on your phone. Do not keep re-pasting the profile URL hoping a different photo will be chosen for you.

Live videos are a worse fit. They are long, full of speech, and the URL is often not a durable public file. Clip the question down: if a song was playing under the live, you need a recording of that moment or a later Reel the host posted. A two-hour live URL is not a song query.

When the result is empty

An accepted URL can still fail. Speech-only clips, unreleased beats, and extreme speed edits often do not match, and we will not invent a title to fill the gap. Private or deleted media fails earlier, at fetch, and that failure does not spend a free identification. The checklist is Reel song not found.

Free use is two identifications in total on this browser. Cache hits stay free. If you already bought a pack or Unlimited on another browser, restore with the checkout email — there is no separate password.

Questions

What Instagram links can ReelSongFinder identify?

Public Reel links (/reel/ or /reels/), and public video posts (/p/ or /tv/) when that is the URL you have. The audio has to be reachable and recognizable. Stories, profiles, Explore grids, and Instagram music pages are not accepted.

How do I find a song on an Instagram Story?

Stories are not supported. They expire and usually have no stable public media URL. Play the Story out loud for Shazam if you can hear it, or ask the account. If they also posted a Reel, use that link.

The Instagram music sticker already shows a title. Do I need a tool?

No. If the sticker names the song and artist, search that title in your streaming app. Use a finder when the sticker is missing, says Original Audio, or is unavailable in your region.

Can I paste a TikTok or YouTube link?

No. This tool is for public Instagram audio. TikTok has its own sound page, covered in the TikTok guide. YouTube links are rejected.

Paste a public Instagram link

Reels first. A public video-post URL is fine when that is what you copied.
