Copy the link
How to find and copy an Instagram Reel link
You need a public Reel URL — not a profile, Story, or music sticker page. Here’s how to grab it on iPhone, Android, and desktop, then paste it to find the song from an Instagram Reel.
iPhone and Android
- Open the single Reel. It should fill the screen. A Story has progress bars across the top — that is the wrong object. A profile grid is not a link yet; tap the clip first.
- Someone else’s Reel: tap the paper plane. In the share sheet, choose Copy link (sometimes labeled Link). It sits with the round icons, not inside a DM named “Send to…”. If the plane isn’t there, tap ⋯ on the Reel and look for the same command.
- Your own Reel: tap ⋯, then Link. Instagram often hides Share-to-copy on posts you created and puts Link in the ⋯ menu instead. The clipboard result is the same shape.
- Paste into Notes and read it.
Pass:
https://www.instagram.com/reel/…or/reels/…plus a short code.?igsh=may follow — keep it. Fail: only a username, an Explore URL, or a/share/blob you can’t see a short code in. For a share blob, open the Reel again and copy from the screen that shows the video. - Paste that text into the finder. Homepage → Find song. Copying the link does not notify the creator.
The link is on your clipboard
If it contains /reel/, paste it. If it doesn’t, you copied the wrong screen.
iPhone share sheet: Copy link is often off to the right
On a recent iPhone build, Share does not put Copy link in the first row you can see. The paper plane opens a sheet whose top row is people, and the row under that is round app icons — Messages, WhatsApp, and whatever else you share to. Copy link is an icon in that same row, frequently past the right edge. Swipe the icon row sideways before you decide the button is gone. Tapping a person sends a DM. That is not a copy. If the icon row never shows Link, close the sheet, tap ⋯ on the Reel itself, and use Link there. Your own Reel almost always uses that ⋯ path; someone else’s Reel usually uses the plane.
A link that arrived in iMessage is a preview, not yet a Reel URL. The bubble can say “Instagram” and
still hide the address. Press and hold the preview and look for Copy, or tap through
until Safari’s address bar shows /reel/ or /reels/, then copy from Safari.
The in-app browser inside Messages sometimes stops on a login interstitial. Use the Safari button in
that browser’s toolbar so the address bar is a real URL you can select.
Android
The paper plane is the same job as on iPhone, with a different sheet. Copy link may sit under a More or Share to… row rather than as a round icon. Long-pressing the video often opens a menu for playback speed, not the URL. If that menu has no link, dismiss it and use the plane or ⋯. Some Android builds label the command Copy URL instead of Copy link. The clipboard text is what matters, not the label.
Chrome Custom Tabs and Instagram’s own browser will show an address only after the Reel has opened.
If the bar still says a bare profile or instagram.com with no path, you are not on the
clip. Back out, open the single Reel from the grid, and copy again.
Desktop / browser
Open the Reel in a normal browser window, not only inside a logged-in embed. When the address bar
shows /reel/ or /reels/ plus a short code, select that full URL including
https://. A bar that ends at the username is the profile. Click the clip in the grid
first.
Instagram also hands out /share/ links from some share buttons. Those can redirect to a
real /reel/CODE address after they load. If your clipboard contains /share/
and no /reel/, open it once in the browser, wait until the address bar changes, and copy
that second URL. Pasting the unresolved share blob is the usual “not a Reel link” failure on desktop
(/share/ link).
A login wall that never reveals the Reel means the account is private or the clip is Close Friends.
There is no public audio to identify in that case. Identifying from a desktop browser, with no app, is
find a Reel song on PC.
The short code is the path segment after /reel/ or /reels/, before the next
slash or ?. It is a mix of letters and numbers, not a sentence and not a username. If you
cannot point at that segment, you copied the wrong screen. ?igsh= after the code is fine
to leave in place.
What a good Reel URL looks like
- Good:
https://www.instagram.com/reel/XXXX/— the classic single-Reel path - Also good:
https://www.instagram.com/reels/XXXX/— Instagram sometimes uses the plural/reels/path; both point at a Reel and are fine to paste -
igsh(and similar) query params are OK: Share links often look like…/reel/XXXX/?igsh=…. You can paste the full copied URL — those tracking params don’t break identification
What to skip
- Don’t paste music sticker / audio pages — URLs under Instagram’s music or audio library (not a specific Reel) aren’t a Reel link the finder can fetch. The song isn’t on that page
- Skip: Stories, profile homepages, Explore grids, and feed posts that aren’t Reels
- Private & Close Friends won’t work: if you can’t open the Reel while logged out (or the account is private / Close Friends–only), a song finder can’t reach the audio either
Copy link missing or looks wrong?
- Share vs ⋯ — Instagram moves controls by app version. Try the paper-plane Share sheet first; if you only see Send to…, open ⋯ / more and look for Copy link.
- Stories are not Reels — Stories expire and often have no stable public Reel URL. Song ID from a Story needs a different workflow; this guide is for Reels only. Which Instagram links work at all: how to find a song from Instagram.
- Profile or Explore URLs fail — if the address bar is just
instagram.com/usernameor an Explore grid, you have not opened a single Reel yet. - Private / Close Friends — Copy link may still work on your device, but a public song finder cannot fetch the audio. Confirm the Reel opens while logged out.
- Does copying notify the creator? — Copying a public Reel link for yourself does not send them a notification the way a like or comment would.
After you copy
Paste the link into the homepage finder and run identify — that’s the whole flow. We pull audio from the public Reel and match the track when it’s in the catalogs. Checking the link is free. How to find and get the link of an Instagram reel
The link is the address of one Reel. These are the screens that actually produce it.
- In the Instagram app, open the Reel and tap Share, then Copy link.
The paper plane is on the Reel. Choose Copy link (sometimes Link or Copy URL).
On a Reel you posted, tap ⋯, then Link. The clipboard should contain
instagram.com/reel/or/reels/and a short code. - On a desktop browser, copy the address bar.
Open the Reel so the bar shows
/reel/or/reels/plus a short code, then select the full URL includinghttps://. A bar that ends at a username is the profile. Click the clip in the grid first. The share icon in the browser can also offer Copy link. A/share/address still has to load until the bar changes to/reel/. - From Saved, open the Reel, then copy. Profile, then the menu, then Saved. Open the Reel (a collection thumbnail is not the link). Tap Share, then Copy link. On desktop, open that same saved Reel and copy the address bar.
- From someone else’s profile, open their Reel, then copy.
Open the profile, tap the clip in the grid or on the Reels tab, then Share → Copy link, or copy the desktop address bar.
instagram.com/usernameby itself is not a Reel link.
Copy a reel link without opening the profile
You do not have to visit the creator’s profile. Copy from the Reel while it is already on screen. Tapping the username is what opens the profile. Skip that tap.
- Home feed. When a Reel is the clip on screen, tap the paper plane, then Copy link. If the feed only shows a preview, tap the clip once so it is the single Reel, then copy.
- Reels tab. The Reels tab already plays one Reel full screen. Tap the paper plane on that Reel, then Copy link.
- A DM. Open the chat and tap the Reel so it opens full screen, then Share → Copy link. You are copying the Reel’s address, not the message. A screenshot in the chat has no link. The longer path for a Reel that arrived in a chat is find the song in a Reel someone sent you.
Read the clipboard before you leave Instagram. Pass: /reel/ or /reels/ and a short code.
Fail: only a username, an Explore grid, or a /share/ blob with no short code.
